6 weeks of intensive language instruction at the Russian Academy of Sciences
- 16 in-class hours of language study per week (prerequisite RUSS 2002 or equivalent).
- RUSS3833: Intensive Russian for Communication (3 cr.)
- RUSS3843: Advanced Reading and Composition -- Current Affairs, Business, Science and Technology (3 cr.)
- Experienced faculty from the Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University
- Small groups of 5-9 students
- Plus RUSS3853: Russia Yesterday and Today (1 cr.) – Yuri Tretyakov (European University, Russian Academy of Sciences), conducted in English (3 hours per week)
- Housing with local families, daily breakfast and dinner provided. Extensive cultural program (with all excursions led in Russian)
- Tour of St. Petersburg
- The Hermitage (former Winter Palace and major fine arts museum)
- Fortress of Kronstadt (with various historical feats of engineering)
- Day trip to Pavlovsk (summer residence of Emporer Pavel I)
- Russian Ethnographic Museum (of the 157 peoples of the Russian Empire, Soviet Union and Russian Federation)
- Day trip to Novgorod
- 4-day trip to Moscow (including visits to Kremlin, Arkhangelskii and Uspenskii cathedrals, Lenin’s Mausoleum, Tret’yakov and new Tret’yakov galleries (of Russian art from early religious icons through constructivists like Malevich and Soviet avant-garde art), Russian State Historical Museum, Arbat and Tverskaya streets)
