2008-09 Internships to Japan

Most study and work abroad programs are managed and operated by the Office of International Education and the Work Abroad Office. However, Modern Languages collaborates with OIE and Work Abroad to manage the Georgia Tech-TU Munich-Siemens program, a signature program that offers students unique opportunites, and the JETRO Internship Program to Japan.

Here is a link to detailed information on the GIT-TUM-Siemens Progam, including how to sign up, many tips and links to TUM, and a step-by-step description of procedures. This program includes a semester at TUM followed by a six-month internship with Siemens or other German Companies. A modest scholarship from Modern Languages is also available, usually about $500. If you are in the International Plan you may qualify for an additional scholarship of about equal value.

The School of Modern Languages manages the JETRO Internship program, which sends students to prominent companies in Japan for internships of 6-12 months. Recruiting begins in September and an announcement will be made in Japanese classes. Two information sessions will take place in September. Students not currently taking Japanese should contact Dr.Phil McKnight or Dr. Rumiko Shinzato-Simonds. Students selected will be notified in December. All majors are welcome. This program may be combined with an intensive language preparation and study in Japan at Ritsumeikan University, Tokyo Institute of Technology or Waseda University. For more details see Modern Languages or the Office of International Education. See also information on the Japanese Unit website.
