Opportunities and Scholarships

  • (Feb., 2003) Monbukagakusho Scholarship---The deadlines for the 2004 applications have been set and applications for the Japanese studies and teacher training scholarships are now available at the Consulate office in Atlanta. The applications for the graduate scholarship and senshu gakko will be available soon. All those interested in receiving an application (in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia) should send Jessica Cork [cork@cgjapanatlanta.org] an email with their mailing address and which application they would like.

  • (Feb, 2003) Study in Japan---Comprehensive Guide

  • Association of International Education, Japan (AIEJ) describes scholarships to study abroad in Japan.

  • Bridging Scholarships for those who would like to study in Japan for an entire semester at a university of your choice! The Bridging Scholarship program administered by the Association of Teachers of Japanese will award 30 scholarships to American students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan that begin in Spring 2003. (Spring 2003 programs are those beginning between January and April 2003 and continuing for at least three months. Summer program participants are not eligible. Students planning to study abroad in Japan beginning in Fall 2003 should apply in April 2003 for the Fall 2003 / 2003 Academic Year scholarships.) Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study and attending any recognized exchange or independent program in Japan are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Recipients of Bridging Scholarships receive stipends ranging from $2,500 to $4,000, depending on the length of their study programs in Japan. The scholarships are funded by donations to the US - Japan Bridging Foundation from U.S. corporations and private foundations. The deadline for applications is October 3, 2002. Successful applicants will be notified by November 30. Selection will be based on academic potential and financial need.   • EAGLE-Japan Program. This program offers an intensive 6-week Japanese language and culture course designed for undergraduate engineering and science students at the Kanazawa Institute of Technology in Japan. REQUIREMENTS: One year of Japanese language study or its equivalent and a major in engineering or science. Contact: scott.clark@rose- hulman.edu.

  • Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. The participants in this program will work in Japan, either as Assistant Language Teachers teaching English in Japanese public high schools and junior high schools, or Coordinators for International Relations working in the local government offices.

  • Japanese Government (Monbu-kagakusho) Scholarship. Government of Japan offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to pursue Japanese studies.

  • Fukuoka University Exchange Program. For the details, contact Dr. John McIntyre at jmcintyr@mgt-sun2.gatech.edu.

  • Online Study Abroad Directory

  • Study abroad. The American Institute for Foreign Study Foundation is providing students of the University System of Georgia $1,000 scholarships to participate in any study abroad program, starting next winter or spring quarter. For more details, contact the International Coordinator on each campus or the Council for International Education at 404-651-2950.

  • Campoamor Scholarships for students wishing to study abroad. All applicants for the Campoamor Awards must have been accepted into the IISP Program or into our LBAT summer program. Application forms are available from the School of Modern Languages. OLD CE. (404) 894-7327.

  • Board of Regents Scholarships. The Board of Regents will offer $1000 scholarships each quarter breginning in January, 1997. These scholarships are open to students in all fields of study for all of our study abroad programs.   • Japan-related fellowships for engineering, science, and management students is offered by the Japan Technology Management Program, University of Michigan. These fellowships cover one year of Japanese language and area studies training at the Univeristy of Michigan. One academic year of tuition plus a $9500 stipend is provided.
