Modern Languages has centralized advising for students seeking help in determing where to being their language studies. Students should read over our suggested entry levels, take our online placement test (available for French, German, Russian, and Spanish), and then, if needing further information or placement help, should consult with the appropriate division coordinator:

- if you have general questions about the school, the courses offered, majors, minors and certificates
- when you need to fill out your degree petition
- if you want to change/declare your major to/from IAML or GEML
- if you need clarification on school regulations and procedures
- if you want information about credit by examination
- if you need information about transfer credits
- if you need help during registration
- if you want to discuss career opportunities and career choices
- if you are a freshman receiving a mid-term
- if you are on academic probation or academic review

- if you want to take classes in that language in a school/university abroad
- when you are about to graduate, for an exit interview
