If you are beginning study of a language for which you have never earned high school or college credit, you may begin in the 1001 course, and you do NOT need to take the placement test.
If you scored a 4 or 5 on an AP language test, or a 5 or higher on the International Baccalaureate language test, you don’t need to take the Placement Test. You automatically have earned 6 hours of credit for the 2001 and 2002 courses in that language. You should enroll in any 3/4000-level course that interests you.
