Student Resources

Permits Requests: Only continue on if you meet one of the following cases for requesting a language permit:

A. Major restrictions are in place on FREN or SPAN courses + you have applied and been accepted as an International Plan student or you have officially added a minor in FREN or SPAN.
If you have not yet gotten Dr. Shook's signature on the Change/Addition form and handed the form in at the Registrar's office, you are not an official minor. Do NOT request the permit--you will be denied!
Do NOT email Dr. Shook to request that he signs off on your Change/Addition form during Phase I or Phase II registration--he won't! Please come and see him before registration begins or once registration has closed.

B. If you are a graduate student wishing to take a 1000-level or 2000-level course in language.
If you are granted the permit, you will still need to physically go to the Registrar's Office in Tech Tower in order to be manually enrolled in the course. You will need to go through this process (request the permit--go to the Registrar's office) for each semester you wish to take a 1000- or 2000-level course in language.

If neither of these cases applies to you, your permit will be automatically denied.

Overload requests: Only continue on if the class you are trying to get in is FULL.

Please note that graduate students will NOT be overload into 1000- or 2000-level courses in languages.

If there are still seats available, your overload request will be automatically denied.

Permit and Overload Requests

In order to request a permit or an overload into a class you will need to answer some preliminary questions. After submitting these you will select a course permit or a section overload in the next step.
