"Madrid, Spain" Component

Full Program Information (pdf)

  • Live 4 weeks in Madrid, famous for its art and nightlife. Go to Mexico as well for full 12 credits and explore two different worlds united by the same language and traditions!
  • Earn 6 semester credits in Madrid and half the certificate in Spanish for Business & Technology.
  • Learn about current issues in Spain and the European Union. Visit 7 companies and institutions in Madrid.
  • Experience a varied cultural program including excursions to Andalusia and Toledo. Pamplona (running of the bulls), Lisbon, Barcelona are all optional.
  • Live with a family or in a fully-equipped residence with three meals or in an apartment.
  • GT fees: Non-residents pay in-state $1,910 for 12 credits plus a $250.00 fee. Residents pay $1,910. Both groups pay $160 technology fee and $200 application fee. HOPE, scholarships, loans apply (consult OIE). 
  • Program cost for both countries: $7,500 (estimate) covers two fees (non-refundable), round-trip airfare to both Mexico and Madrid, airport transfers, 2-month housing with families in double rooms, three meals/day, business visits, 3 excursions, medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance. Both trips and the full 12-credit sequence are required for the LBAT certificate but can be done in two summers.

Madrid only: $5,280 program + $100 application, $160 technology, $960 for 6-credit tuition fees ( + $250 out-of-state fee if applicable)

You must also contact the Office of International Education (OIE) for your required Study Abroad application which can be filled out online, information on eligibility, financial aid, secure travel, evacuation and repatriation insurance, health concerns, orientation sessions, and transient student application packages for students from institutions other than Georgia Tech.

Payment Deadlines

  • Upon application, $300 deposit for air ticket reservation
    • December 7, 2007, $1,500 deposit for housing by 4pm
    • February 29, 2008: $2,000 by 4pm
    • April 14, 2008: balance by 4pm
  • OIE Application deadline: March 1, 2008.

REFUND AND EXCHANGE RATE POLICIES

Matriculation fees and tuition will be refundable as specified in the summer OSCAR catalogue. Signup fees are non-refundable; for Madrid only they are $200 + $550. Airport security, gasoline price hikes, taxes and some exchange rate fluctuation have been included in the program fees but any changes beyond expectations will be absorbed by participants.

For your security, Georgia Tech reserves the right to cancel this program without further notice.

Program descriptions and fees subject to final approval by educational units and the Office of International Education. Georgia Tech reserves the right to alter or cancel this program due to low enrollment, unavailability of a professor to teach a planned course, or other unforeseen circumstances. If Georgia Tech cancels the program before departure or while the program is in progress for reasons beyond its control, such as political unrest or danger to participants' safety, only those fees that Georgia Tech is able to have refunded by service providers will be returned to participants. If a student withdraws or is excluded from the program, the student will be responsible for the payment of all fees that cannot be refunded by service providers.
