Stipends for Undergraduate Engineering Students to Study in Russia at the Bauman Moscow State Technical University

What will scholarships cover?

These generous scholarships will cover expenses for a summer of intensive language preparation (Georgia Tech LBAT plus bridge program in technical Russian) and ten months of study at Bauman Moscow State Technical University (one of Russia's premiere engineering schools). 

When will scholarships be available?

Scholarships will be available for summer-fall-spring 2012-2013 and summer-fall-spring 2013-2014.

What are the prerequisites?

Students must be on track to complete at least RUSS 2002 or equivalent by the spring prior to participation in the program. 

What other qualities should the successful applicant possess?

The successful applicant will have strong language aptitude, a record of academic excellence in his/her major, and a strong desire to complete in the program.  Prior experience living or traveling abroad or other evidence of success adapting to new and challenging situations is a plus.

What does the program of study encompass?

During June-July preceding study at BMSTU, students will participate in the Russian LBAT program. 

This will be followed by a 3-week bridge program in technical Russian.

During 1st semester, students will take the following courses:

  • Advanced Russian language
  • Engineering Ethics (a small-group problem-solving course taken together with BMSTU students and utilizing a newly developed web-based interface for collective argument visualization)
  • An elective in social science or humanities
  • A course in the student's major discipline OR additional Russian language and auditing of a course in the major discipline

During 2nd semester the student will be expected to take at least two courses in the major discipline.

What will the living arrangement be for my stay in Russia?

Living arrangement will be in a homestay with a Russian family.

What disciplines are invited to apply?

Most engineering disciplines, as well as computer science.  However, BMSTU has no Civil or Industrial engineering departments.

What is the deadline for application?

The deadline for application is February 15, but please also contact Dr. Goldberg ahead of this deadline to alert him to your interest in the program.

How do I apply?

Step 1: Complete the scholarship application and return to Dr. Goldberg.  NB: If this application is submitted by February 7, we will give feedback on the viability of your application before step 2.  Step 2: complete the official Georgia Tech application for study abroad. (Select "BMSTU Exchange Program.") .
