MinorsThe School of Modern Languages offers minors in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian Studies, and Spanish. This program is designed for students who wish to develop their language skills to at least an intermediate level and to provide themselves with a greater depth than possible with a Certificate program. Students must earn 18 credit hours of language electives, in a single language (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian or Spanish) and beyond the level of the 2001 course. Electives in Russian Studies include both language and upper divisional courses in translation in Modern Languages, INTA and LCC. All 2002, 2699 and upper-division courses in a language will count towards the minor requirements. Students may transfer a maximum of 9 credit hours towards the minor requirements with the approval of the Director of Undergraduate Studies. All courses counting toward a minor must be taken on a letter grade basis, and a grade of C or better must be received in each course. Students wishing to pursue one or more of these minors should consult with the Director of Undergraduate Studies their intention in order to allow us to track their progress and to gain priority registration. Graduating students should submit a minor approval form with the approved signature from their major school as well as the signature and approval of the ML DUS at the same time they submit their degree petition. Forms can be obtained from the Registrar's website. |
